Vote For Rachel Wales Ward 3

People Over Politics

Campaign Hero

My Bio

My name is Rachel Wales I currently serve as an environmental science educator. I am running in the upcoming special election on May 12th for the Champlin City Council Ward 3 seat as a nonpartisan candidate.

I decided to pursue this office because I want to make a positive difference for Champlin residents. I believe one way to go about that is with civic engagement. It is important to give back to the community and this is something I’m passionate about.

I’ve been involved with non-profit organizations over the years, specifically the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota, Safe Hands Rescue, and supporting the Champlin United Methodist Church.

I come from a large blended family where I learned the importance of hard work, resilience, patience, and grace.

I’m proud to say that I was able to achieve higher education, while battling a chronic illness and working two part-time jobs. These skills I’ve learned throughout my life translated to my work in the classroom and helped me to navigate challenges.

Along the way I met my husband in grad school and we’ve been married for 18 years. He is also an educator who teaches math and coaches football. We are both competitive athletes and sports fans, and we participate in a 5k that benefits a different non-profit every year.

This fuels me to combat local issues that need to be addressed in Champlin, such as preventing fraud, waste, and abuse, lowering taxes, infrastructure problems, and protecting our few remaining natural resources.

I am the only candidate who has held local office and has successfully lobbied for the implementation of legislation for community advancement.

I am running a grassroots campaign that is supported by people power—not special interests.

I hope to have your vote on Election Day!

My Key Issues

Against resident tax increases

I disagree with inessential and wasteful projects. We can make community advancements without always placing the financial burden on home owners.

Road Repair

I will take a proactive approach to city streets which are in disrepair due to potholes.

Implement an independent watchdog group

This independent watchdog organization will oversee Champlin budget to maintain fiscal transparency and accountability
